The youths of Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on 17th August 2015 Monday morning, amidst heavy downpour, came out enmasse to demonstrate over the indefinite power outage/black-outage in the land, which has lasted almost one year. The youths were seen marching under the heavy rain and chanting to express their annoyance, as they moved towards the office of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company(EEDC) in Afikpo.  The demonstration which led to traffic hold-up at some axis in Afikpo in addition to the closure of markets and other businesses within the town for the whole day. Later on, Ebonyi State Government directed the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company(EEDC), whose properties were destroyed by some aggrieved youths who demonstrated over the long and indifite power outage in Afikpo, not to restore light to the area until the people replace all government and EEDC properties damaged by the youths. EBONYI WORKERS TO BE PAID JUNE SALARY AS BONUS :UMAHI

1. The special salary reconciliation committee setup by the Gov Chief Dave Umahi has endorsed the payment of June salary to all state civil servants based on the 50% increment rate, the decision was contained in a release issued by the committee after its maiden meeting at the executive council chambers at Govt house Abakaliki. 2.The release was jointly signed by the chairman of the salary reconciliation committee Dr Sam Egwu and the secretary Rev. Fr Abraham Nwali as well as other members, while the chairman of Nig labour congress Ebonyi state chapter comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor and his trade union counterpart comrade Elias Oduma signed on behalf of NLC and TUC respectively. 3. According to the release the payment of the June salary using the old salary scale of March through May is regarded as both salaries and bonus to workers pending the final decision of the committee on a payable wage table based on the prevailing economic realities from the month of July 2015. 4.

ELECHI GRILLED BY EFCC OVER COUNCIL FUNDS

 Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. Martin Elechi Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have quizzed the immediate past governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. Martin Elechi, in connection with an ongoing investigation on the administration of local government funds in the state. It was learnt that Elechi, his son, and some state government officials who served under him, are being interrogated in connection with a multi-million naira asphalt project awarded to 13 local government councils in the state. FIVE STATES UNDER EFCC INVESTIGATION FOR FRUDLENT ACTS

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is investigating five state governments in connection with suspected financial crimes, sources in the commission said on Tuesday. ELECHI SIDELINED, BOOED AS JONATHAN 'S CAMPAIGN TRAIN VISITS EBONYI.

Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi was on Friday booed by some party supporters during the presidential campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State Capital.
