I WILL NOT PROBE ELECHI, SAYS UMAHI



Governorship flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Ebonyi State, Mr Dave Umahi, yesterday said he will not probe the incumbent governor of the state, Chief Martin Elechi, if comes into power, but vowed not to condone corruption. Umahi stated this in Abakaliki, while addressing journalists at his campaign office located besides Salt LakeGovernorship flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Ebonyi State, Mr Dave Umahi, yesterday said he will not probe the incumbent governor of the state, Chief Martin Elechi, if comes into power, but vowed not to
condone corruption. Umahi stated this in Abakaliki, while addressing journalists at his campaign office located besides Salt Lake Hotels, Afipko road, stressed that he would not condone any corrupt practices, which leaders of the state have agreed to eradicate, as failure to do so would amount to inviting poverty in the state. Umahi, attributed the political disagreement between him and the governor to the handiwork of darkness. He noted that he would run all inclusive government, not a type that would award contracts to their sons, wife and family members, adding that Elechi's problem was that the governor does not listen to anybody; otherwise he could not have promised more than four people that they would succeed him. According to him, the former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Fidelis Mbam resigned because Elechi could not listen to his advice on critical issues in the state. Umahi, who was the former state PDP Chairman, said he was still submissive to the governor, stressing "I will not lay my hand on the governor no matter the level of the provocation". The deputy governor noted that the declaration of support to the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan without extending same to other candidates of the party in the state by Elechi, amounted to hypocrisy, assuring that ‘’President Jonathan will get the highest votes from Ebonyi than in previous elections".
