EBONYI WORKERS TO BE PAID JUNE SALARY AS BONUS :UMAHI
1. The special salary reconciliation committee setup by the
Gov Chief Dave Umahi has endorsed the payment of June
salary to all state civil servants based on the 50% increment
rate, the decision was contained in a release issued by the
committee after its maiden meeting at the executive council
chambers at Govt house Abakaliki.
2.The release was jointly signed by the chairman of the
salary reconciliation committee Dr Sam Egwu and the
secretary Rev. Fr Abraham Nwali as well as other members,
while the chairman of Nig labour congress Ebonyi state
chapter comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor and his trade union
counterpart comrade Elias Oduma signed on behalf of NLC
and TUC respectively.
3. According to the release the payment of the June salary
using the old salary scale of March through May is
regarded as both salaries and bonus to workers pending the
final decision of the committee on a payable wage table
based on the prevailing economic realities from the month
of July 2015.
4. However , the salaries of local govt civil servants in the
state and the issue of salary increment is to be stepped
down until the rot in the local govt system is addressed,
consequent upon which the committee would propose their
salary structure based on economic reality.
5. Consequently all parties have been directed to return to
work immediately and await the final pronouncement of the
committee on the salary structure of the state and local govt
civil servants on or before 22nd of August 2015.
6.While receiving the report the state Gov chief Dave Umahi
Umahi thanked the committee for the speed in which they
arrived at the resolution and noted that govt was confident
of an amicable resolution.
7.The Gov praised labour for its cooperation and
acknowledged the role workers played on his electoral
victory, urging labour to abide by the resolution by accepting
the June salary.

Earlier while presenting the report the chairman of the
committee and senator representing Ebonyi North senatorial
zone Dr Sam Egwu thanked the Gov for the urgency he
attached to labour issue in the state by setting a committee
to resolve the impasse.
