GOVERNOR NWIFURU INTERVENES IN AHIA OFUU MARKET CRISIS, SENDS COMMISSIONERS TO BROKER PEACE

 Abakaliki, Ebonyi State – 26th March,2025 –  In a move aimed at resolving the escalating conflict between Ahia Ofuu market traders and the Chairman of Ezza North LGA, Hon. Moses Ogodoali Nomeh, His Excellency, Governor Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has stepped into the matter by dispatching two key commissioners to the market. Honourable Victor Chukwu, Commissioner for Environment, and Honourable Emeka Collins Igboke, Commissioner for Transport, arrived at Ahia Ofuu market to address the pressing concerns of the market women. The women, who had previously staged a protest at the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, expressed their deep distress over the arrest and detention of their market chairman and other stakeholders, allegedly on the orders of the LGA chairman. The women passionately pleaded with the commissioners to intervene and secure the immediate release of their detained leaders. Hon. Nomeh's Fabrications Under Scrutiny: A Demand for Transparency and Accountability

Moses Ogodoali Nomeh's recent press statements, in which he dismisses the Ahia Ofuu market traders' protests as "ignorant" and claims to be acting in their best interests, are a transparent attempt to deflect from his own questionable actions. His assertion that he is "actively advocating for the welfare of traders" rings hollow in the face of his demand for a ₦350,000 levy from women who financed their own shop construction. His claim that the traders "misconstrued" his efforts is a disingenuous attempt to shift blame. The traders' grievances are clear: they are being asked to pay an exorbitant sum for shops they built themselves, in a market where the LGA has consistently failed to provide basic infrastructure.
